Really? RSS Is Dead?
2012
We recently posted an article on LockerGnome that “RSS Readers suck”. As a blogger who relies on RSS feeds to inspire new ideas on a daily basis, I completely disagree with the article, but it was linked to in another article to support the proclamation that RSS is Dead.
My question – if RSS is really dead, why are they so many third-party RSS apps supporting the use of RSS beyond use of the (completely ugly and totally hideous) web-based Google Reader? People obviously want to use RSS to read blogs via their desktop, mobile, and even offline.
I find it hard to believe a core function of the internet is dead when a marketplace is thriving for people who want to use that functionality.

I love using google reader and couldn’t imagine life without a RSS feed organizer! Since you don’t like google reader, what do you use instead?

I use NewsRack on my Mac and Feedler on my iPhone. They’re really well designed and I couldn’t imagine life without RSS, either!
RSS is not dead – give me a break. BUT, there are some flaws with having it seamlessly work with mobile now. Everyone raves about Google Reader, but I don’t get it! For a blogger, it doesn’t promote leaving comments since you can’t comment straight from Reader and have to click through to site to comment (an extra step I found myself not taking). But, the only RSS apps I could find for iPhone connected with Google Reader and not Netvibes, which is my current pick of choice because I can view the beautiful site designs of my favorite bloggers (since I’m a visual person) AND can comment within the reader. Since Netvibes doesn’t have iPhone app integration (just a mobile version), I’m actually clunkily working between reading things on my phone with Google Reader, and using Netvibes from a desktop. :/
